Introduction

Supporting standardisation of the SIM telecom ecosystem

Trusted Connectivity Alliance is a global, non-profit industry association, working to enable trust in a connected future. Its members are participants within the SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) ecosystem, which is the most widely distributed secure application delivery platform in the world. It is an ecosystem which is growing and evolving:

  • Worldwide SIM shipments remain significant.
  • New connectivity needs are fuelling demand for additional eSIM solutions. Future business growth opportunities exist for SIM vendors in the provision of personalisation, lifecycle management and security services for eSIMs in a growing number of connected IoT and M2M devices.
  • The prospect of integrated technologies is now on the horizon and established players from the connected device ecosystem are entering into SIM and secure element (SE) provision for the first time with new types of solutions.

Our Members

Trusted Connectivity Alliance members include organisations with an interest in SIM, embedded SIM (eSIM), embedded Secure Element (eSE), integrated SE and SIM (iSE, iSIM), hardware and software IP provisioning or related personalisation services. Trusted Connectivity Alliance provides a collaborative environment for members to work closely together and with other technical industry associations and standards bodies to support the continued standardisation of the SIM ecosystem. Working groups identify, define requirements and provide deliverables of a technical, strategic and marketing nature which support the ability of all stakeholders, including OEMs, device manufacturers and service providers, to choose tamper proof connectivity solutions which benefit from the most stringent end-to-end security.

Trusted Connectivity Alliance members participate in an annual shipments market monitoring process, which provides an exclusive and statistical view of the relevant markets based on members’ shipment data. The broad representation of SIM vendors within our membership makes this insight into key market data strategically important for all SIM stakeholders.

Enabling trust in connected future

It is an objective of Trusted Connectivity Alliance to drive the sustained growth of a connected society through trusted connectivity which protects assets, end user privacy and networks. By representing all key actors within the connected ecosystem, and facilitating collaboration amongst them, the TCA can support the increased adoption of connectivity / security technology across existing and new use cases, and create a harmonised, optimal end-to-end ecosystem.

TCA has published its annual market monitoring data showing significant global eSIM growth in 2020, with eSIM shipments collectively reported by TCA members increasing 83% year-on-year to reach 309 million units. Learn more here.
