Trusted Connectivity Alliance is a global, non-profit industry association, working to enable trust in a connected future.
Trusted Connectivity Alliance evolved from the SIMalliance in February 2020, reflecting the continued expansion of the global SIM industry and the need for broader industry collaboration among all ecosystem participants beyond traditional SIM manufacturers.
Today, Trusted Connectivity Alliance members are leaders within the global Tamper Resistant Element (TRE) ecosystem. A TRE is a standalone secure element or secure enclave, consisting of hardware and low-level software providing resistance against logical and physical attacks, capable of hosting secure applications and their confidential and cryptographic data, and are available in removeable, embedded and more recently, integrated form factors (e.g. SIM, eSIM and integrated SIM). This enables all stakeholders in our connected society to benefit from the most stringent secure connectivity solutions that leverage TCA members’ expertise in tamper proof end-to-end-security.
Trusted Connectivity Alliance works to advance and advocate the trust and security credentials of TREs, standardise and enhance the TRE ecosystem to support the evolution of cellular connectivity (e.g. 5G and IoT), and promote innovation and growth opportunities the TRE offers across markets where security is paramount, such as connected cars, wearables, smart utilities, industry 4.0 and healthcare.
Key strategic initiatives include:
- Ensuring eSIM interoperability and expanding benefits to more IoT use-cases.
- Leveraging SIM technology for IoT security, including continued collaboration with GSMA on IoT SAFE.
- Evolving and optimising 5G SIM technology to enhance 5G network services.
- Highlighting the importance of subscriber privacy in 5G.
- Promoting consistency across integrated SIM technologies.
- Enhancing the TRE market monitoring process to deliver industry-leading insight.
Facilitating engagement across the connected ecosystem
Trusted Connectivity Alliance members include organisations with an interest in SIM, eSIM, embedded Secure Element (eSE), integrated SE and SIM, hardware and software IP provisioning or related personalisation services. Trusted Connectivity Alliance provides a collaborative environment for members to work closely together and with other technical industry associations and standards bodies to support the continued standardisation and enhancement of the TRE ecosystem. Working groups identify, define requirements and provide deliverables of a technical, strategic and marketing nature which support the ability of all stakeholders, including OEMs, device manufacturers and service providers, to choose tamper proof connectivity solutions which benefit from the most stringent end-to-end security.
Trusted Connectivity Alliance also works with industry partners, including ETSI, Eurosmart, GlobalPlatform, GSMA and MIPI Alliance, to support the continued standardisation of the TRE ecosystem alongside other technical industry associations and standards bodies.
Members participate in an annual shipments market monitoring process, which provides an exclusive and statistical view of the relevant markets based on members’ shipment data. The broad representation of SIM vendors within our membership makes this insight into key market data strategically important for all SIM stakeholders.
Enabling trust in connected future
By representing all key actors within the connected ecosystem, and facilitating collaboration amongst them, the TCA can support the increased adoption of connectivity / security technology across existing and new use cases, and create a harmonised, optimal end-to-end ecosystem.
